THE CHEMNITZ PAVILION

The Chemnitz Pavilion aims to expand the cultural identity of the city through opening up the potential of the sticker to residents and visitors. The project attempts to establish the visibility of a broad range of identities, cultural forms and voices within the urban landscape of Chemnitz. In the same way that Chemnitz resists being fixed to singular or monolithic identities, the Chemnitz Pavilion occupies multiple selves and overlooked worlds. The structure of the Pavilion is based on this same principle of multiplicity, creativity and belonging:

  • The Chemnitz Pavilion is an artwork.
  • The Chemnitz Pavilion is a city guide that focus on locations along Tram Line number 5.
  • The Chemnitz Pavilion celebrates Chemnitz as a CITY OF STICKERS.
  • The Chemnitz Pavilion is open to all.
  • The Chemnitz Pavilion is a participatory project that invites residents and visitors to produce location-based stickers. The sticker should be based on a site in Chemnitz that inspires us to dream, play, create. A space, object, environment, park, building, street or monument (minor or major) that engages the imagination and reflects the everyday experience of living in the city.

The Chemnitz Pavilion website is home to a series of stickers that commemorate key sites along Tram line number 5 (that runs between Hutholz and Gablenz). Participants are invited to submit an idea for a sticker for the Chemnitz Pavilion that can be easily accessed along line number 5. Here, you can nominate a location that embodies something that relates to your experience of the city.

The Chemnitz Pavilion website is home to a series of stickers that commemorate both the overlooked and omnipresent. Through the submission page on this website, participants are invited to submit an idea for a sticker for the Chemnitz Pavilion.

The Chemnitz Pavilion was first commissioned by Barabara Holub as part of the flagship project WE PARAPOM! Between 2022-2225 I worked with residents and designers to produce the stickers that can be found on the website.
